ReCONNECT: Specialist HIV
Re-engagement

ReCONNECT
Further Information and Application

Some people living with HIV find it difficult to stay connected with treatment and care. Missed appointments may be linked to stigma, trauma, housing and money worries, mental health, discrimination, difficult past experiences with services, or several challenges at once. ReCONNECT is designed to help experienced HIV peer practitioners respond with greater skill, understanding and confidence.

What is ReCONNECT? ReCONNECT is a specialist training and support programme that builds on existing peer mentor training to focus on helping people reconnect with HIV care and stay engaged. ReCONNECT has been designed by Living Well and will be delivered by them in partnership with Positively UK and Fast Track Cities London.

Why ReCONNECT? People who have disengaged often need more than reminders or general encouragement. They may need a trusted practitioner who can understand complex barriers, work with clinical and community teams, coordinate practical help and support a personalised route back to care.

Who is the training for? Applications are welcomed from experienced HIV peer mentors with lived experience of HIV, relevant training and an active HIV support or engagement role. Experience with complex cases, multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), or clinical settings is particularly valuable. Applicants must have support from their employer or host organisation to attend training and follow-up supervision.

What will you learn? Understanding disengagement and healthcare “missingness”; trauma-informed and inclusive practice; advanced Motivational Interviewing and coaching; personalised re-engagement plans; advocacy, case coordination and MDT working; boundaries, safeguarding, reflection and practitioner wellbeing.

How does the training work? Three interactive face-to-face training days, practical case studies and simulated conversations, followed by three facilitated reflective group supervision sessions over three months. Participants complete a reflective portfolio and a competency review. Successful participants receive a programme completion certificate from Living Well.

Important to note: This is not an introductory peer support training . ReCONNECT is a specialist programme focused on identifying barriers, proactive re-engagement, coordinated case work and links with HIV services. Participants may need to rebalance their existing peer support workload to undertake these responsibilities safely and effectively. The ReCONNECT role does not include diagnosing, prescribing or providing clinical treatment.

When and where? ReCONNECT Training takes place face-to-face on 7, 8, 9 December 2026; in a community venue in London (to be confirmed). Following the training there are three mandatory sessions of online group supervision planned for January, February and March 2027. Final arrangements will be confirmed with successful applicants.

How to apply? Please complete and submit the application form on this page by 13 November 2026. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a structured interview. There is no guarantee of a paid position or placement following training; any employment arrangements remain with participating organisations.
